Suzanne Collins is an American author of young adult fiction and former children’s television writer. She is best known for her Hunger Games series, which was adapted into a film trilogy in 2012.
The Hunger Games is the first book in the eponymous young adult series, set in the dystopian future of what was once the USA.

74 years ago, the people rose up in rebellion against the exploitation by the Capitol. They lost, and one of the thirteen districts was destroyed in nuclear fire. The remaining twelve districts surrendered, and every year since have had to give up two children as tributes in a free-for-all death match dubbed the Hunger Games. 16 year old Katniss Everdeen from the destitute District 12 has spent her days sneaking beyond the fence to hunt for food and gather herbs to support her family. When her younger sister, Primrose, is chosen as this year’s tribute, Katniss does the unthinkable, she volunteers to take her sister’s place in the games.
Catching Fire is the second book in the Hunger Games series.

A year after winning the Hunger Games, Katniss, Peeta, and their families are living well in the Victor’s District. President Snow has threatened Katniss’s family and best friend, Gale Hawthorne, to make her convince her adoring public that her actions during the Hunger Games were out of love for Peeta, not out of rebellion against the Capitol. Soon after their victory tour of the other districts, the 75th Hunger Games are called. The Third Quarter Quell has some different rules, however. Instead of any child between 12 and 18, only previous winners will be chosen as tributes. Since the only winners in District 12 are Katniss, Peeta, and their mentor Haymitch, it’s obvious who will be competing.
Mockingjay is the third and final book in the Hunger Games series.

After escaping the Games in the previous book, Katniss, her family, her friends, and her fellow Hunger Games survivors must adapt to living underground in the hidden District 13, headquarters of the new rebellion. Katniss reluctantly agrees to pose as the Mockingjay, the symbol of the rebellion’s propaganda, on the condition that they rescue Peeta from the Capitol and that all previous competitors in the Games receive amnesty for their actions. The leader of the rebellion, President Alma Coin, insists on flipping for Katniss’s second condition, to personally execute President Snow.
