Dragonflight is the first novel in the Dragonriders of Pern science fantasy series. It’s a fix-up of novellas, including two that won McCaffrey awards.

In the far flung future, humans on the world of Pern have tamed the native dragons. In Ruatha Hold, an orphan girl, Lessa, is planning to retake her birthright from the usurper who killed her parents. Her plans are suddenly changed when she bonds with a young queen dragon. The bond they forge will protect them when an ancient threat, long thought to be a myth, descends from the sky, the mycorrhizoid Thread.

Dragonquest is the second novel in the Dragonriders of Pern series.

The deadly Thread has fallen on Pern once more, but this time the dragonriders are not united against the threat. After being brought into the future, the Oldtimers are sowing dissent against the current leadership; the Dragonriders’ leader’s brother wants to mount an offensive against the Red Star, where the Thread come from; and now the dragons in heat are complicating things by stirring up their riders’ emotions.

Dragonsong is the third novel in the Dragonriders of Pern series.

Menolly is a talented young musician, but is punished by her parents for practising what is seen as a masculine activity. Tired of her parents’ oppression, she runs away and finds a litter of fire lizards, miniature dragons, which she adopts and teaches to sing with her. Little does she know that both the Dragonriders and the Harpers, the union of scholars, musicians, and diplomats, are both interested in her.
